Trying to Find a Tree

After helping grandma cut down her Christmas tree in Utah the kids could hardly wait for Shane to get back on Saturday so we could go cut down our own. We headed over to the tree farm on Saturday afternoon and sadly to our surprise, in Southern California the Christmas tree farms only grow Cyprus trees (whose branches they trim into the shape of Christmas trees). Not exactly what we had in mind. It's just not Christmas at our house without a Noble Fir, so we headed over to the local hardware store to pick out a pre-cut tree shipped from Oregon (our usual pick). Change of plans again ....we ended up just buying a fake tree instead. I guess I'm just going to have to buy a pine-scented candle this year instead!

Here are the kids at the tree farm, pretending to ski.

Here's the new "real-looking" fake tree.

I can't wait until my hubby decides a fake tree would be best. Real Christmas trees are still important to him, even though they're care intensive and more expensive in the long run. I could push the issue, but I can't spoil it for him. On the other hand, it's good for kids to have the real tree experience for a while too.

Looks good the countdown begins, 12days and we will be there. But Zack and I have so much to do. Finals week (this week) start and finish Christmas shopping, send out invites to the Temple, but I have to wait to get the stamp I ordered to finish, and go shopping for out clothes! Oh boy, and I want to enjoy Christmas time by seeing the lights, hot cocoa ect. Oh well

Well, you had your adventures anyway. I think your tree looks pretty! I clicked on the picture to get a closer look and noticed that the Sacred Grove print looks like it is abuzz with lightening bugs.

I've loved having an artificial tree. We'd been poor for so many years that we wouldn't have had a tree if it weren't for the artificial tree. We still have to vacuum up the fake pine needles though.
