Mt. Baden Powell

Saturday we hiked Mt. Baden-Powell. For me and Jared, it was our first peak (an 8 mile hike). 4 miles straight up and 4 miles back. It was tough and Jared wanted to quit after the first 1/2 mile. He is usually a really great hiker, but the steep trail is just no fun to an eight year old. Shane, of course took a huge pack (he being the forever scout, packed anything we could have needed.) This worked good for me and Jared because it slowed him down a little.
.
Getting ready to start the hike.

The first sign of snow at about 2 miles up.
We ended up having to hike over quite a few snow banks.

The peak in sight.

Baden Powell Junction (less than a 1/4 mile from the top).

About 2 minutes after we passed the junction, Jared decided to take a nap. He didn't want to go any further.

Eventually Jared got up and we made it to the top. I had a great time and was very proud of myself.

Jared at the top.
We did some goecaching too. We found one cache on the peak.
We found another cache on our way down.

The Edginton boys enjoyed having Jared over the other day.

looks like a tough hike. I dont think any of us would have made it up to the top...including the dogs LOL.

By the way Jared did not really collapse, he was fooling around. Although he wanted to turn back, he did great. He was the only one that wasn't sore when we got home.
